If you’re sick, you need to keep your smile in mind while you’re curled up in your blankets and cuddled to your tissue box. This is encouraged because your teeth and gums can be affected by your sickness if you’re not careful. So, our dentist, Dr. Niloufer Hamsayeh, recommends doing the following things while you’re sick:
-Keep up with brushing and flossing, no matter how tired you are. It’s important to brush twice a day and floss once a day. This is especially important because some types of medication promote cavities, like those that contain high amounts of sugar.
-Drink plenty of liquid, especially water. This can help you stay hydrated, get over your sickness, and wash the bacteria in your mouth away.
-Throw your toothbrush away when you are better. This can help you avoid getting sick again because you won’t be using the same toothbrush.
-Keep bacteria away from your mouth by gargling with salt water or by rinsing your mouth with antibacterial mouthwash. This can help you keep your mouth healthy and clean.
