If you’ve lost a tooth due to gum disease, oral trauma or for other reasons, Dr. Niloufer Hamsayeh might suggest a dental bridge.

Do you know what a fixed dental bridge is? It’s a fake tooth (also called a pontic) that is implanted into your gums with two crowns on either side that go over the top of the teeth. A bridge works best for those with weak teeth. The crowns provide the support necessary for daily activities.

The procedure for a dental bridge can vary depending on your needs, but the following paragraphs should give you an idea of what it’s like:

At your first appointment, Dr. Niloufer Hamsayeh will numb the area and remove some of the enamel structure to prepare your teeth for the dental crowns. Then she will form a mold of your mouth. The dental lab will use this mold, called an impression, to form your custom-made dental bridge. Dr. Niloufer Hamsayeh might fit a temporary bridge over the gap to restore the full function of your mouth in the interim.

When the permanent bridge is finished, Niloufer G. Hamsayeh, DDS will bring you back in to mount it upon your teeth and make sure it fits right. The procedure for a fixed bridge might take longer to complete; you might need a follow-up visit.
